About

What is BONSAI CLUB TOKYO?

BONSAI CLUB TOKYO is an independent media platform exploring Japanese bonsai and the people, culture, and stories behind it.

Through interviews with bonsai artists, visits to gardens across Japan, exhibitions, techniques, and individual trees, we document bonsai from different perspectives and share what we discover around the world.

Why Bonsai?

Within a small pot, the seasons are always changing — fresh growth in spring, shade in summer, autumn color, and the quiet structure of winter branches.

Caring for bonsai means more than simply growing a plant. Watering, shaping, touching the soil, and noticing small changes day by day creates a moment to reconnect with nature.

Behind every tree are years of care, knowledge, philosophy, and a respect for nature that cannot be rushed.

That connection to nature, time, and the changing seasons is what continues to draw us to bonsai.

Why We Started

BONSAI CLUB TOKYO began with a single bonsai on a small balcony in a Tokyo apartment, in a city where life moves fast and nature can easily feel distant.

I am not a professional bonsai practitioner. I am simply an enthusiast who started growing bonsai on a balcony in Tokyo.

The more I learned, the more I wanted to meet the people who have devoted their lives to bonsai, visit the gardens where these trees are grown, and understand the knowledge behind them.

That curiosity became the starting point for BONSAI CLUB TOKYO.

Our Mission

Bonsai culture has been cultivated in Japan over generations and continues to fascinate people around the world.

We aim to document Japanese bonsai as it exists today — the people who shape it, the places where it is grown, the knowledge and techniques passed down through generations, and the relationship with nature at its heart.

Through stories, guides, interviews, and films, we hope to share the depth and beauty of bonsai from Tokyo to the world.
